MWU AZ vs NYU

posted this for UMN vs NYU, but i'll add some stuff

NYU:

pros: clinically excellent. the clinical program here is probably one of the best in the country. not to mention aesthetics training, and a lot of opportunities for research; get to go to school in manhattan

cons: class size (could be a pro or con, depending on the kind of person you are); resources are available but you have to make an effort to seek them/seek help if you need it. your hand will not be held here. cost-if you don't have a scholarship of some sort or are footing 100% of the bill on loans then that might be a huge con. new york city is very expensive

everyone is talking about implants, so i figured i'd throw this in. NYU was the first to develop a pre-doc program to introduce implants. you can place implants if you're an honors student, but you're the quarterback for any implant case..you just may not get to place them. implant overdentures and implant crowns are requirements here.

CAD/CAM-each clinic floor has milling machines. yeah, it's cool (i've done 2 and i'm a third year) and it's extremely convenient..but to be honest it's not a big deal.

invisalign--also the first school in the country to have a pre-doc invisalign program. it's cool to have the certification at the end. in clinic you are eligible to do invisalign cases (most of them). if they are too advanced they get referred to post graduate orthodontics, which isn't necessarily a bad thing.

another couple of pros that i'd like to add: NYU has every specialty in house, so consults are easy to come by. residents take cases that are way beyond your scope (i.e. fabricating a denture for a patient who has very minimal bone support). highly doubt any other school has students that deal with such advanced cases anyway.

another pro: NYU really pushes aesthetic dentistry. one of the co-founders of laminate veneers teaches you during your second year. you may even have the opportunity to work 1 on 1 with him and other pioneers in the field. no other school offers that.
