- 720 hours of research in school of medicine. Published in one journal of immunology and infectious disease.
- 200 hours of volunteering in pediatric emergency department as well as 150 hours of assisting in clinical research for emergency medicine. Presented independent project at medical research conference.
- 250 hours of volunteering in local community clinic targeted towards uninsured latino population.
- 450 hours of tutoring elementary school kids in underperforming school. I directed the program for about a year.
- Established a comprehensive health education program in Honduras, and health survey of HIV testing sites/primary care which was published in global health journal.
- Interned two months for LGBT rights NGO in Vietnam. Helped conduct survey among MSM regarding attitudes about participating in HIV clinical trials.
- Interned for one month in Guatemala, studied social issues of environmental toxins in water and environmental policy. Final project I developed a comprehensive environmental studies/health curriculum for local elementary school.
- Camp counselor at summer camp for underprivileged youth. Was in charge of fundraising $27,000 and established charitable partnership with large company.
- I have a job lined up for me after graduation at UCSF AIDS research institute as a lab assistant but I'm not sure if I want to do it yet.
- Recently I've started volunteering at a nonprofit that provides outdoor recreation trips for people with AIDS. I've been a wilderness guide for two years so it's something that I actually enjoy as hobby while having the opportunity to serve people.
- I have 6 W's and have repeated 3 classes. I have two D's and two C's. Did really bad my first year and a half during undergrad but got straight A's for the rest of sophomore year and junior/senior years (I even got a few A+)
- I only took the mcat once and surprisingly got a 523. Not sure if I should get it again.
- I don't really have good reasons for my poor performance during the first two years of college other than the fact that I was overwhelmed with working 15 hours a week and partying too much. I finally was just able to change my habits and do well.
- I am a URI and was actually homeless during high school and partly through my first year of college if that can help account for anything...
