Less-than-stellar performance in freshman year is common and pretty much expected. A 3.0 right now is a heck of a lot better than a 3.0 in your junior/senior year, though nothing is necessarily a deal-breaker.
I 100% understand your desire to do band (as a former marching band and orchestra person, continuing music even through medical school) but your grades are also very important. College band is a whole different animal and rehearsal every night will require MAJOR time management on your part in order to do both well. I assume now that football is ending, you won't be doing it in the spring or at least not every night?
