Love/hate relationship with medical school

Occasionally, often early on in a block, I will get an overwhelming sense of satisfaction and joy that I am finally a medical student. This is best felt by reminiscing on the earlier years, "Wow, I'm so glad M1 is over" "I'm so glad I'm not still an undergrad with all that b.s. to slog through just to get INTO medical school", etc. I've enjoyed everything leading up to now in different ways, but mostly I'm grateful to be on this path and that I can look back and see how far I've come.

I'd say undergrad, medical school, and residency are like a marathon with hills. People will have their own opinions about what parts were a struggle uphill, a flat and boring clearing, and which were smooth cruising downhill. Multiple mini hills within years, some years had higher hills the whole time, some years felt like they would never reach the peak. But looking back upon the small hills I've conquered is satisfying and looking forward to the even bigger hills (M3, the match, residency) is still exciting.
