I'm having some trouble debating between these two. I feel like whichever I rank higher, I may end up going there, and I can't make up my mind. NYEE interviews 75 for its 7 positions and UAB interviews 36 for its 5 positions, so chances seem high getting into either depending on my rank list.
NYEE has the name recognition -officially ranked 11th best in the nation. Their 7 residents per year typically work till 7pm daily due to high clinical volume; however, the surgical numbers are less than national average. I believe having this name recognition could get me into great fellowship programs. Only 2 of the 7 are going into comprehensive and rest are doing fellowship.
UAB has great clinical and surgical numbers (cataracts above national average). As far as ranking and reputation goes, it is known to be a great program, but I don't think it's officially ranked.
Should I just see these programs being on par with each other and then just decide based upon location or do you feel one is stronger than the other? Thank you for your advice!
